Same effect

Same effect

An eccentric ring design inspired by BENEE's "same effect". The song reflects the bittersweet feeling of two souls chancing upon one another, but not being able to stay together. It’s the tenderness and longing of watching someone from afar, knowing that while you may not get to stay forever, you got the chance to see and experience their person for who they are and the specialness of all they embody. It’s about reaching out and sending out the love, regardless of whether it comes back to you. It is the joy that comes with the sacrifice of loving. No love is ever wasted.

Denzel wanted us to explore the use of Apple Music's visualisation feature of "same effect":

Based on the song, the ring to reflects:

  • The idea of different perspectives from two opposite ends - seeing things from opposite ends. Was it a missed chance or was it a chance encounter?

  • Contradicting the idea of “never meeting again” - maybe it was a fateful collision. A happening that birthed something new. The end of something might be a new beginning, bringing forth also a new mindset, or a new way of seeing things.
“I’m sick of being alone. Lying ‘round here And you’re all that I want The others, they don’t have the same effect”
  • Something that is etched deeply, ingrained and carved into. That one encounter, a soft brush of two lives coming together created a huge impact.
“Don’t wanna be someone who you forget.”

The photos below were something that encapsulated the following sentiments about the song; and it was also in line with the Apple music’s visualisation below - both of which reflecting the sentiment of an encounter, a collision, an impact.

There is a hidden design feature of the Crux constellation. It is a constellation of the southern sky that is centred on four bright stars in a cross-shaped asterism commonly known as the Southern Cross. It’s primarily visible from the Southern Hemisphere. While not as prominent, Crux can be seen from the southern reaches of the Northern Hemisphere (the opposite end), but only near the horizon for a few hours each night. It reflects the idea of “right time, right place”, in line with the concept of “chance encounters”.

Thanks Denzel for this fun, funky design!

Love, Jaymee
