The story of Adam and Eve

The story of Adam and Eve

I had the privilege of creating my parents' wedding bands. Their brief for this project was a pair of rings inspired by Genesis 2:22-24.

And the rib which the Lord God had taken from the man He made (fashioned, formed) into a woman, and He brought her and presented her to the man. Then Adam said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh

- Genesis 2:22-24 AMP

Genesis refers to the origin or mode of formation of something.

I saw it as the beginning of life

  • Roots: when a seed germinates, the roots form and emerge first --> we are likened to trees in the bible, our roots need to sink deeper into His life and His word.
  • Blood vessels: are channels that carry blood throughout your body. They form a closed loop, like a circuit, that begins and ends at your heart.
  • Heart: The first organ to develop in a fetus is the heart -> The heart begins to form as an S-shaped tube, and soon starts beating and pumping fluid

The front designs of the ring are centered around the design of the sternum
The sternum connects to the ribs via cartilage and forms the front of the rib cage, thus helping to protect the heart, lungs, and major blood vessels from injury.

Overall, I wanted the pieces to encapsulate the idea of “beginning”, “coming together”, being joined. The examples above depict the Genesis of creation - they all stem and are joined from a single source, which is the most important part (e.g. the heart, the roots, the sternum) as it keeps life going and the body functional. It's the idea of how a relationship is only functional when it draws from the single source of life (God). The rings are meant to form a part of the rib when stacked together.

The back of the ring features an S-shape design, which is how the heart begins to form

Thank you to my greatest supporters!

Love, Jaymee
