A little thing

I worked with Yuki to create a ring that would serve as a reminder to always let gratitude and wonder guide her way, which also encapsulated her various life experience and memories of her time overseas. The way she painted the scene made me feel like I was almost there with her!
"One of my favourite memories was stumbling on a hillside with a beautiful mountain view and little cottages and grazing cows. We could hear the little soft hollow chimes of the cow bells..."
She shared how she had to get out of the area before the sun set and when she did, she witnessed a really beautiful sunset. It's truly the unplanned moments like this that make us feel like we're alive - the thrill when we are at a specific place at a specific time, and everything just aligns perfectly.
The back part of the ring band features the same memory - using the photos that Yuki sent, we incorporated the shape of the mountains as part of the design:

We went with the bottom design, and incorporated a wavy texture
Taking inspiration from Chinese ornaments, design elements, and motifs. I wanted to incorporate Yuki's story of stumbling on the mountain view hillside and seeing the sunset while also including the oriental features representing her time in China. Ginkgo tree leaves would be one of the key features of the ring.

The textures of the ring took reference from oriental style illustrations, which were full of layers and lines - this flowed into the shape of a sun, and connected to the ginkgo leaf sculpture.

The stem of the leaf and the flow of the sunset will come together to form the ring band (mountain landscape) at the back.

Thank you Yuki for sharing your lovely experiences with me and for being a joy to work with!
